Larry attended Iowa State University, obtaining a bachelor of science degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1968. During that time he was a cooperative engineering trainee with Deere Incorporated, in Ottumwa, Iowa. He spent 19 months in the U.S. Army, stationed in Viet Nam as an E-5. Larry attended law school at the University of Iowa, receiving his Juris Doctorate in 1973. He also completed the educational requirements to obtain an MBA from the University of Iowa Graduate College of Business. Following an 11-year association in the Murray, Curtis & Finn Law Firm, Larry joined his present law firm and became a partner in 1986. Larry is married with one daughter and one son. He served in local politics as a City Council member and was twice elected Mayor of the City of Ames.
